We want to note that the implied “gap” between econometric and computational methods has been closing rapidly in recent years. With the increasing availability of detailed primal production data, such as satellite-based land and water use estimates, there has been a corresponding trend towards integration of econometrics and calibration. For example, we can use field-level production data to econometrically estimate the physical relationship between crop yield and production inputs and we can use this information directly in the calibrated model.
