AEN in EIDM

EIDM@AEN

The AEN is a community of people dedicated to EIDM in Africa. The shared aim of everyone in the AEN is to increase the use of evidence in decision-making to help reduce poverty and inequality across the continent. Towards achieving this aim, the Network engages in four key activities:

  1. We connect individuals and organisations to unlock the power of relationships and networks to making EIDM a reality.
  2. We inform our members and the wider public on all things EIDM in Africa to keep up-to-date and reflect the dynamic pulse of EIDM in Africa.
  3. We learn together about EIDM, exploring new approaches to building EIDM capacity on the continent and researching the art and science of using evidence in Africa.
  4. We advocate together for EIDM on the continent raising awareness of EIDM and the potential contribution of systematic evidence-use for development impact.

Connects

Connecting the AEN is about deepening the relationships that make evidence-use a reality in Africa. The AEN secretariat actively connects with members on social media, participating in conversations that matter to members. We also host a biennial event that draws together the most diverse group of producers and users of evidence than any other EIDM event in the world. EVIDENCE events showcase the EIDM work happening on the continent and internationally. We also host regular #AfricaEvidence webinars on different topics of interest to AEN members. These platforms allow members to network with people outside their sectors, and facilitate cross-country exchanges on EIDM.

Informs

Informing with the AEN is about staying up-to-date with the developments that are most relevant to EIDM both in Africa and the rest of the world. We inform our EIDM community by searching for and sharing the best and latest EIDM practices and developments from across the globe. Every month, the Network shares an average of 25 EIDM stories, events, or publications with its members via our website, social media, and newsletter. The AEN blog also provides members with an opportunity to share their professional experience and showcase the work of their institutions.

Learns

Learning at the AEN is about jointly exploring and developing new ideas and capacities, and deepening our understanding of EIDM in Africa. The AEN supports its members’ learning and capacity-sharing on EIDM: we host over 300 open-access EIDM resources from different institutions involved in promoting evidence-use globally via our learning space. The Network is also constantly striving to understand the evidence ecosystem in Africa more holistically. Currently, we host the most complete body of knowledge about evidence ecosystems in different countries in Africa, built by members of the AEN themselves.

Advocates

Advocating with the AEN is about celebrating the incredibly diverse and unique nature of African EIDM by making it a priority to showcase African EIDM across the continent and globe. One way we do this is with the annual Africa Evidence Leadership Award that honours African evidence champions’ leadership and excellence in EIDM. Another way we are doing this is through our #AfricaLovesEvidence marketing campaign. Advocacy for EIDM aims to raise awareness of and familiarity with EIDM across a range of African audiences: from ministers and civil servants, to civil society and citizens, communities and companies.
