Capacity Development for Evidence-Use in Africa: Building a Database of Organisations

Building a database of organisations that conduct capacity development for evidence-use in Africa

Flowing from the AEN’s Manifesto on Capacity Development for Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (EIDM) in Africa,[i] the AEN Secretariat is developing an open-access database of organisations that conduct capacity development for evidence-use in Africa. Our aim is that this database will serve as a tool to enhance collaboration on capacity development for evidence-use across Africa, i.e., enable all of us to easily find other organisations who we can collaborate with on EIDM capacity development. In the initial phase we collated the database from information several organisations submitted via completion of a survey. You are welcome to search through the database for potential collaborators on EIDM capacity development.

We will regularly update the database. If you work for an organisation involved in capacity development for evidence-use in Africa, and have not submitted your information, we invite you to complete this questionnaire to enable us to add your details to the database. The questionnaire should take you between 15 and 20 minutes to complete. By submitting your organisation's information, you give consent that this information will be included in our open-access database. Once you have submitted the questionnaire, the Secretariat will follow a verification process before adding your organisation's information to the database that will be accessible here on the AEN's website.

For clarity, according to the Manifesto (AEN 2021), with capacity development for evidence-use, we mean any initiative undertaken by organisations to (1) enhance and share capacities (including knowledge, skills and values) of individuals/groups related to evidence use in Africa; (2) improve organisations and their articulation with the evidence ecosystem in Africa to get things done; and (3) improve systems, processes, institutional structures, and modes of operation of the African evidence ecosystem(s) for effective, equitable and ethical use of evidence to have the Africa we want.

Thank you to the organisations who responded to our 'Capacity development for evidence-use' questionnaire so far. You are helping us build the database of organisations conducting capacity development for evidence-use in Africa. Here's a list!
